1. Executive Summary
Insider risk management (IRM) involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential threats posed by individuals within an organization, such as employees, contractors, vendors, or partners who have authorized access to systems and data. These insiders may misuse their access, either intentionally or unintentionally, causing harm to the organization, its customers, or other stakeholders. Such harm can take the form of data theft, confidentiality breaches, insider trading, fraud, or regulatory violations. If left unaddressed, insider risks can lead to serious consequences, including operational disruption, financial loss, reputational damage, and regulatory penalties.
An effective insider risk management program should be a priority for any organization, but success depends on more than just deploying the right technology. It requires a foundation of clear policies, procedures, and controls to prevent, detect, and respond to insider incidents. Equally important is fostering a culture of trust and accountability, in which individuals understand their responsibilities and the consequences of misconduct. Crucially, this is not solely an IT responsibility. Insider risk management is a collaborative effort across departments, including human resources (HR), legal, security, IT, and compliance.
That said, technology plays an essential role. Today’s insider threats are too complex to manage through policy and manual oversight alone. This has led to the emergence of dedicated insider risk management solutions that integrate technologies such as asset discovery, user behavior analytics, and data loss prevention. These are supported by capabilities like real-time alerting, reporting, and case management. As threats evolve, particularly with the rapid adoption of AI and generative AI (GenAI) tools, vendors are increasingly focused on adapting solutions to meet these emerging challenges.
This report focuses on the technologies that provide visibility into insider risk by monitoring user activity across digital environments. These tools collect and correlate behavioral signals to detect threats, support investigations, and enable enforcement actions to protect critical assets.
Ultimately, insider risk management is essential for protecting an organization’s reputation, operations, and competitive advantage. It helps ensure regulatory compliance, strengthens security posture, reduces operational costs, and supports customer trust. Whether the threat stems from malicious intent or inadvertent behavior, insider risk is significant and must be proactively addressed.
This is our second year evaluating the insider risk management space in the context of our Key Criteria and Radar reports. This report builds on our previous analysis and considers how the market has evolved over the last year.
This GigaOm Radar report examines 16 of the top insider risk management solutions and compares offerings against the capabilities (table stakes, key features, and emerging features) and nonfunctional requirements (business criteria) outlined in the companion Key Criteria report. Together, these reports provide an overview of the market, identify leading insider risk management offerings, and help decision-makers evaluate these solutions so they can make a more informed investment decision.
GIGAOM KEY CRITERIA AND RADAR REPORTS
The GigaOm Key Criteria report provides a detailed decision framework for IT and executive leadership assessing enterprise technologies. Each report defines relevant functional and nonfunctional aspects of solutions in a sector. The Key Criteria report informs the GigaOm Radar report, which provides a forward-looking assessment of vendor solutions in the sector.
2. Market Categories and Deployment Types
To help prospective customers find the best fit for their use case and business requirements, we assess how well insider risk management solutions are designed to serve specific target markets and deployment models (Table 1).
For this report, we recognize the following market segments:
Small to medium-sized business (SMB): In this category, we assess solutions based on their ability to meet the needs of organizations ranging from small businesses to medium-sized companies. Here, ease of use and deployment are more critical than extensive management functionality and feature set.
Large enterprise: Here, offerings are assessed on their ability to support large and business-critical projects. Optimal solutions in this category place a strong emphasis on flexibility, performance, scalability, and seamless integration into existing environments.
Public sector: While the infrastructure of these environments is likely to be similar to that of SMBs and enterprises, these organizations typically have some constraints, especially around needing suppliers to meet specific requirements laid out in buying and supply frameworks. Solutions must therefore be able to meet such framework demands.
Managed service provider (MSP): Service providers seek core enterprise functionality that supports reselling isolated, rebrandable instances to their customers. Centralized management is crucial, primarily for creating and removing customer accounts efficiently.
In addition, we recognize the following deployment models:
SaaS: These solutions exist only in the cloud and are managed by the service provider. Their advantages include simplicity, rapid scaling, and flexible licensing. Although some components, such as agents, may require physical installation, for the purposes of this report, a SaaS solution is defined as one from which central management and intelligence features are available as a service.
Self-hosted - on-premises: With this model, the central management and intelligence elements are fully installable on-premises, in either the customer’s data center or a colocation facility. They are not shared and are specific to a single customer.
Self-hosted - cloud: With these solutions, the central management and intelligence elements are installed on cloud-based machines within a customer's cloud tenancy. The solutions are not shared and are specific to a single customer.
Managed service: In this model, the vendor oversees all management and operations, typically managing everything directly rather than through one of its partners. However, for this report, co-managing, by which operations are shared between the provider and the customer, is also acceptable.

Table 1 components are evaluated in a binary yes/no manner and do not factor into a vendor’s designation as a Leader, Challenger, or Entrant on the Radar chart (Figure 1).
“Target market” reflects which use cases each solution is recommended for, not simply whether that group can use it. For example, if an SMB could use a solution but doing so would be cost-prohibitive, that solution would be rated “no” for SMBs.
3. Decision Criteria Comparison
All solutions included in this Radar report meet the following table stakes—capabilities widely adopted and well implemented in the sector:

Tables 2, 3, and 4 summarize how each vendor in this research performs in the areas we consider differentiating and critical in this sector. The objective is to provide the reader with a snapshot of the technical capabilities of available solutions, define the scope of the relevant market space, and assess the potential impact on the business.
Key features differentiate solutions, highlighting the primary criteria to be considered when evaluating an insider risk management solution.
Emerging features show how well each vendor implements capabilities that are not yet mainstream but are expected to become more widespread and compelling within the next 12 to 18 months.
Business criteria provide insight into the nonfunctional requirements that factor into a purchase decision and determine a solution’s impact on an organization.
These decision criteria are summarized below. More detailed descriptions can be found in the corresponding report, “GigaOm Key Criteria for Evaluating Insider Risk Management Solutions.”
Key Features
Risk source integration: Insider risk identification is most effective when a wide range of telemetry can be collected from various tools, including user directories, endpoints, SaaS applications, networks, and cloud infrastructure. Telemetry from non-technically focused systems such as HR and case management platforms can further enhance this identification.
User education: Proactive user education significantly reduces the threat of risky actions. Top-tier solutions offer a spectrum of approaches, ranging from immediate notifications to comprehensive, targeted educational initiatives.
Data loss prevention (DLP): Since data is the primary target for cyber attackers, tools that both identify risky internal behaviors and block attacks on valuable data provide significant customer value.
Collaborative case management: Comprehensive risk management begins with identifying potential threats and extends to rigorous investigation by operational security teams. However, true effectiveness is achieved when platforms seamlessly enable security teams to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders, transforming investigations into a shared, more impactful effort.
User behavior analytics: Managing insider risk centers on identifying high-risk actions from within. Therefore, valuable solutions will be those that can learn individual user behavior, create a baseline of normal activity, and proactively detect deviations that signal a potential threat.
Response automation: Rapid response to risk is crucial. That's why platforms with automated response capabilities are valuable. Even better are solutions that enable complex, integrated responses, allowing seamless interaction with other platforms for immediate threat management and effortless integration of insider risk activities into existing workflows.
Compliance reporting: Failing to meet compliance requirements poses a significant risk to organizations, potentially leading to considerable challenges and severe business impacts. Therefore, platforms that actively guide customers toward continuous compliance will be highly valuable.
Enterprise security stack integration: Insider risk management solutions should be able to integrate into an enterprise's existing security infrastructure, leveraging current tools such as XDR, EDR, SIEM, SOAR, and ITSM. Such integrations not only help facilitate adoption but also make the tools a core part of an organization’s security, ensuring they are incorporated into the daily security workflow.

Emerging Features
Operational AI agent/copilot: While AI/ML and analytics already enhance accuracy behind the scenes, copilot-type technology such as AI-powered assistants that can interact with users, offers even greater value by guiding operations staff through tasks, automating routine actions, and streamlining workflows, allowing them to identify and stop threats more effectively.
GenAI risk detection: The growing use of GenAI tools increases the potential for insider risks, such as users sharing sensitive data with public AI tools and internal AI agents accessing confidential data sets. This creates threats to data privacy and intellectual property. Insider risk management tools can help reduce these threats and encourage safe GenAI use.
Non-technical risk assessment: The evaluation of insider risk cannot solely rely on a user's technical interactions. Tools that incorporate non-IT metrics such as job status, internal discipline information, and communication sentiment analysis can all contribute to creating a more contextual and accurate risk assessment.

Business Criteria
Ease of use: Driving effective adoption is essential to the success of any IT project—and ease of use plays a key role. Solutions that are intuitive, easy to learn, and fit naturally into existing workflows are far more likely to be embraced by users. Seamless integration with current platforms and minimal disruption to day-to-day tasks help reduce resistance and accelerate adoption. Just as important, vendors who prioritize usability and offer straightforward implementation and support make it easier for organizations to get up and running quickly. When a platform feels effortless to use, adoption follows.
Ease of management: The insider risk threat is complex, and any solution aimed at reducing the risk should not introduce additional complexity. Businesses will value tools that simplify management, provide centralized administration and reporting, and automate repetitive tasks. Vendors that can offer broad coverage and assist with compliance requirements will also be beneficial. Beyond technology, vendors that offer services such as support, training, and proactive account management will help lessen the overall management burden of a solution.
Flexibility: Customer environments are constantly changing and evolving over time. Insider risk management tools must be adaptable, offering various deployment options and adoption methods, along with commercial flexibility to cater to a wide range of customer needs.
Cost: Businesses need a clear understanding of the full cost of any potential technology investment—not just the license price, but also adoption, implementation, and ongoing operational expenses. Transparency in pricing and terms is essential. Vendors who clearly communicate licensing details make it easier for customers to evaluate total cost and plan effectively. Leading solutions further support adoption by offering practical guidance and readily accessible information, helping users deploy and start realizing value more quickly.
Ecosystem: Many insider risk management vendors provide additional value, offering management tools, reporting platforms, and threat analysis capabilities. Many also support customers with non-technical resources such as educational events and professional services. When evaluating solutions, organizations should also consider the variety of partners within the vendor’s broader ecosystem, which can further enhance flexibility, support, and long-term success.

4. GigaOm Radar
The GigaOm Radar plots vendor solutions across a series of concentric rings, with those set closer to the center being judged to have higher overall value. The chart characterizes each vendor on two axes—balancing Maturity versus Innovation and Feature Play versus Platform Play—while providing an arrowhead that projects each solution’s evolution over the coming 12 to 18 months.

Insider risk management solutions continue to evolve to address the changing threat landscape. However, the field also continues to mature, as shown by the increased number of vendors in the Maturity half of the chart in Figure 1, with several that have moved up from the Innovation half since the previous report. Vendors have begun to settle on approaches, either using broad insider risk analytics platforms designed for security operations analysts or focusing on data and data-related activities to identify potential insider risks. This should help customers evaluate the space, as it suggests that vendors are less likely to make significant pivots in their approaches, thereby reducing the risks associated with substantial product changes, such as the need for increased training or redesigning workflows and response playbooks. The vendors in the Innovation hemisphere are those still aiming to drive change in their methods; even those with established platforms expect to continue making substantial changes as they seek to redefine approaches to IRM or acquire relevant technology.
Vendors are distributed across the Feature Play and Platform Play hemispheres. Feature Play vendors are those that tend to have a specific focus on a particular market sector, typically reflected by vendors targeting the SMB space.
The graphic shows an even split between Challengers and Leaders, demonstrating both a number of strong providers and several that, while competitive on some of our metrics, still have room to improve to better meet customer needs. Our research shows that many vendors, especially those noted as Outperformers, are actively evolving their products, with roadmaps focused on innovation and differentiated capabilities, including new patents.
Integrations are a key differentiator in this report, especially for solutions that can connect with a wide range of risk sources. The ability to ingest data from diverse systems is particularly valuable for insider risk management, as it allows vendors to deliver more comprehensive context, more accurate risk scoring, and improved threat identification, thereby improving accuracy and effectiveness. This advantage was especially clear among the Leaders in this report, many of whom earned high marks in behavioral analytics for leveraging their extensive telemetry to generate meaningful insights and accelerate the detection of user risk.
Insider risk remains a significant threat to organizations and a complex technical challenge for vendors to address. However, this is an area of robust development, with many vendors continuing to improve their comprehensive solutions to help reduce the occurrence and effects of the problem. We expect this development to continue in the future.
In reviewing solutions, it’s important to keep in mind that there are no universal “best” or “worst” offerings; every solution has aspects that might make it a better or worse fit for specific customer requirements. Prospective customers should consider their current and future needs when comparing solutions and vendor roadmaps.

To create the GigaOm Radar graphic, key features, emerging features, and business criteria are scored and weighted. Key features and business criteria receive the highest weighting and have the most impact on vendor positioning on the Radar graphic. Emerging features receive a lower weighting and have a lower impact on vendor positioning on the Radar graphic. The resulting chart is a forward-looking perspective on all the vendors in this report, based on their products’ technical capabilities and roadmaps.
Note that the Radar is technology-focused, and business considerations such as vendor market share, customer share, spend, recency or longevity in the market, and so on are not considered in our evaluations. As such, these factors do not impact scoring and positioning on the Radar graphic.

5. Solution Insights
Bottomline: ITM – Insider Threat Management
Solution Overview
Bottomline is a leading provider of financial technology that makes complex business payments simple, innovative, and secure. Bottomline’s ITM protects against insider risks in both financial and non-financial institutions, including government agencies.
Bottomline ITM has three main components: Record & Replay (R&R), Insider Threat Analytics, and Enterprise Case Management. Originally designed for financial institutions, the solution features detailed investigative tools that help identify insider risk and fraudulent activities. It collects data from network traffic and application logs, and monitors end-user activity via a Java plugin for modern browsers. Its patented non-invasive R&R captures user access through non-intrusive network sniffing and granular screen replay, supporting alert investigations without the need for intrusive endpoint agents, and delivers forensic-grade visual audit trails. Insider Threat Analytics profiles user behavior, detects anomalies, and issues real-time alerts on suspicious activity. The Enterprise Case Manager manages alerts and cases with queues, workflows, dashboards, link analysis, and letter generation, all through a single interface. The platform can be deployed in the cloud or on-premises.
The solution provides a detailed analysis tool that enables the complete replay of user sessions and comprehensive case management. It includes an extensive library of preconfigured risk scenarios, enabling users to assess risks quickly. Additionally, it offers the ability to create response workflows that can carry out specific mitigation actions, such as blocking users.
Bottomline offers a single platform that consists of distinct modules that can be purchased individually or bundled together, with continued development expected to be delivered within the platform.

Strengths
Bottomline scored well on a number of decision criteria, including:
Collaborative case management: The solution offers complete enterprise case management, with comprehensive capabilities that enable it to gather information from various sources that can be shared with others involved in the case, including suspects, victims, and law enforcement personnel.
User behavior analytics: The solution provides comprehensive threat analytics using behavioral analytics and peer group analysis, which combine statistical profiling and business rules to detect both known and emerging threats before egress. This approach helps reduce false positives by focusing on intent detection, rather than just data exfiltration events. It includes over 120 preconfigured risk indicators, and new indicators can be added as needed.
Response automation: The solution includes configurable workflows that can automatically take action when specific types of alerts are generated. Actions include sending an email, suspending user access, creating a ticket in the Bottomline ECM or in a third-party case manager, or raising a ticket in an external ITSM. The workflow function is fully configurable by users.
Opportunities
Bottomline has room for improvement in a few decision criteria, including:
Compliance reporting: Although the solution provides valuable information for regulatory compliance, it lacks a compliance-focused approach. Adding a more compliance-centric dashboard and reporting feature would ease the compliance efforts of customers.
Data loss prevention: Instead of blocking information when it leaves an organization, the solution monitors user activity when accessing sensitive data, adding an extra layer of protection by detecting suspicious behavior. The solution is designed to complement DLP rather than replace it and does not aim to compete against DLP vendors. However, customers seeking to consolidate their data security and insider risk capabilities would benefit from additional DLP controls being offered natively within the solution.
Enterprise security stack integration: Increasingly, organizations are seeking to broaden the reach of their security tools, fostering a more unified security strategy. The solution provides integrations with SIEM and ITSM tools, but adding more prebuilt integrations would help customers do this.
Purchase Considerations
Licensing is subscription-based and is calculated on the number of monitored users. Pricing information can be received directly from the vendor or through local partners. For customers satisfied with the preconfigured rule sets, implementation should be straightforward. There will be some work involved in deploying Java plugins and integrating them with the network, but professional services are available for customers who need assistance.
This solution is designed for larger enterprises and may not be suitable for smaller businesses. There is no offering for MSPs.
Use Cases
Bottomline delivers a strong solution that supports a variety of use cases. For customers in the financial sector, its advanced capabilities in insider risk and fraud detection are especially compelling. Its ability to capture comprehensive, auditable recordings of user interactions across a wide range of applications makes it particularly well-suited for organizations that require detailed fraud investigations.
Coro: Coro Complete
Solution Overview
Coro is a leading cybersecurity platform explicitly designed for SMBs. It provides comprehensive, modular security solutions that simplify cybersecurity management, enabling organizations to protect against a wide range of threats without requiring extensive IT resources. Each module is available as a standalone solution.
Coro Complete is a flexible SaaS platform that enables organizations to build security solutions tailored to their specific needs. It includes component modules for endpoint security, email security, cloud app security, network security, data security and governance, and security training that all work together to deliver a complete view of user and data activity. Designed for automated detection and response, the solution effectively supports smaller IT teams. The Coro Service, the core SaaS component of the platform, handles data management, analysis, reporting, and communication with endpoints and cloud applications via a secure web interface for setup and oversight. Telemetry is gathered through endpoint agents and API integrations with remote cloud and SaaS platforms, including Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
Once integrated into a customer environment, the solution combines telemetry to provide a detailed understanding of user behavior, including setting baselines and detecting anomalies. When anomalies are detected, it offers automated responses and real-time alerts, along with investigation tools like ticket management for quick security actions. Customers can create response playbooks that incorporate multiple actions. However, the platform has limited options for customizing or adding new mitigation steps, as the vendor prefers a fully automated system that reduces the need for IT professionals to craft tailored threat responses.
Coro's approach to product development emphasizes quick progress and maintaining a bold roadmap, focusing on delivering new features and capabilities. Customers can expect ongoing changes and improvements to the Coro platform, which may result in additional training needs or workflow adjustments.

Risk source integration: The solution integrates with a wide range of telemetry sources, using multiple methods to achieve seamless integration, including its endpoint agent and prebuilt integrations with other products such as Microsoft 365. It effectively uses the information gathered to provide a comprehensive overview of user behavior, thereby enhancing its ability to identify risks.
User education: The company recently introduced a formal awareness training feature to its platform. It offers both "nudge" tips and a comprehensive security awareness training module. What makes this stand out is that the module is fully dynamic, enabling targeted training based on the actual results from the risk telemetry in the platform. The solution can tailor training content based on user behavior and risk exposure, ensuring that the education provided is timely and relevant.
User behavior analytics: The solution employs advanced behavioral analytics to track user activities across different functions, including file use, application access, and communication. It detects anomalies in user behavior that could signal potential insider threats. The system establishes a baseline of regular user activity and continuously monitors deviations from this baseline to spot possible risks.
Opportunities
Coro has room for improvement in a few decision criteria, including:
Response automation: Coro offers a fully automated solution with limited options for customizing its responses. It does allow customers to create response playbooks; however, much of the system is designed to be invisible to the user. This is a design choice, not a limitation, but some customers, particularly those with exceptionally experienced IT teams, may want more configuration options and the ability to customize responses.
Collaborative case management: The solution offers case management, but it provides only basic incident management. This involves reviewing open tickets and either assigning them for further review or closing them as resolved. Implementing more robust case management workflows and the ability to capture more details would make this more useful to users with more advanced case management needs.
Enterprise security stack integration: The solution provides a number of prebuilt integrations with SIEM and PSA tools, and additional connections can be established via API and webhook. However, for enterprise users, having more prebuilt integrations and a broader library of tools would be advantageous.
Purchase Considerations
Coro's licensing is mainly per user, allowing installation on multiple devices (up to five) owned by that user without additional costs. Coro offers subscription-based licensing. The minimum commitment is flexible, enabling customers to add or remove users at any time without long-term contracts. Customers can view pricing details directly on the Coro website. Detailed pricing plans are available. For specific inquiries, customers can contact Coro's sales team or partners.
Coro's SaaS-based management platform, single-agent architecture, and modular approach simplify deployment. Customers should not need professional services. However, professional services are available if required, through Coro and its partners.
Coro targets organizations with no more than two full-time cybersecurity professionals on its IT team. Larger organizations are not a good fit for this vendor.
Use Cases
Coro’s fully automated and simplified approach can be highly valuable to the small teams in its target organizations. It also provides broad, user-centric controls, from comprehensive endpoint protection, email security, and phishing defense to basic data governance.
Cyberhaven: Data Detection and Response (DDR)
Solution Overview
Cyberhaven combines insider risk management with DLP to safeguard sensitive data from insider threats, exfiltration, and misuse, helping organizations to identify, assess, and investigate risky users and their interactions with data.
Cyberhaven DDR is a SaaS platform that integrates with existing environments using an endpoint agent, cloud connectors, and a browser extension that covers both IRM and DLP use cases. It offers visibility into on-device data movement and interactions with cloud and web applications. Utilizing data lineage to trace sensitive data enables the real-time detection of policy violations, an understanding of contextual user behavior, and risk identification for both intentional and unintentional data issues. Users can set rules with a policy engine that provides detailed controls based on insider risk, such as high-risk users, including new hires or those who are leaving. Policies can be tested retrospectively against past actions and all can be managed through a single console.
The solution provides detailed incident insights, including the capture of screenshot data useful for investigations. Linea AI streamlines investigations and identifies risk trends, while Insights 360 provides a comprehensive overview of security posture, risks, and data flows.
Moreover, Cyberhaven also introduced Security for AI, which detects incidents when sensitive data is entered into or shared with AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot and takes immediate actions such as blocking, alerting, or educating the user about the risk.

Risk source integration: The solution provides broad integration across endpoints, SaaS, and cloud. It can also gather information from IDP and non-technical systems, such as HR, to help build a wide view of user context.
Collaborative case management: The platform provides collaborative case management features that support comprehensive insider risk investigations, making it easy for non-technical investigators to understand the events leading up to a threat. Investigators receive details to aid their investigation, including related events, user activity, policy violations, data lineage, and contextual summaries generated by Linea AI. This gives them complete visibility into the user’s behavior and its impact on sensitive data.
User behavior analytics: The solution emphasizes how users interact with data throughout its lifecycle and whether their actions create a risk to sensitive information. The platform constantly gathers telemetry from various sources, including endpoints, cloud applications, and identity systems, to build a detailed profile of each user, enabling it to identify subtle insider threats, such as a departing employee slowly exfiltrating files or a user misusing authorized access.
Opportunities
Cyberhaven has room for improvement in a few decision criteria, including:
User education: The solution can alert end users with notifications and "nudges” to help address risky behavior. However, it does not offer formal training for users. Integrating a more formal training platform could help reduce risks when users perform non-malicious but potentially dangerous actions.
Response automation: The platform triggers alerts internally and externally via email, SIEM, SOAR, or ticketing systems. Customers can create custom workflows with their visual policy editor. However, a native workflow engine that could enable SOAR-like orchestration would benefit users with complex automation needs.
Compliance reporting: The solution enables users to build reporting and dashboard widgets for monitoring specific data types, including PII, PHI, and credit card data, and tracking their movement. However, it lacks a compliance-centric view. As regulatory compliance becomes increasingly central to cybersecurity, adding prebuilt dashboards for common frameworks would be beneficial.
Purchase Considerations
